Have you ever been hit by someone or touched somewhere you didn’t want to? Has anyone ever asked you to strip naked in front of them? Were there any longer times when you were hungry but not able to eat?
There are many children who are beaten by adults or the elderly, ignored or touched somewhere on the body where they do not want to be. In these situations, children are often very scared and unable to defend themselves. During these experiences, but also when they are finally over, some children feel very badly. They do not sleep well, often dream about these bad experiences that happened to them. Or they may not be able to concentrate in school and at home. Such experiences are quite normal after a child goes through such a dire situation. But these feelings and thoughts don’t have to stay! There are people who can help you – they are also called “child and adolescent psychotherapists”. These people will then talk to you and help you feel better!
You can also find more information in our information flyer for those affected.
If you think you could need someone like that to listen to you and help you, you can find the contact addresses of the practitioners in your region here.

There are many children and adolescents who are hit, ignored or touched somewhere on the body by adults or other adolescents, even though they do not want to. In these situations, children and adolescents are often very scared and unable to defend themselves. During these experiences, but also when they are finally over, some children and young people continue to feel very bad. They do not sleep well, often dream of those uncomfortable situations they experienced, unable to concentrate in school or at home. Often they have the feeling that they don’t care about anything and that they can no longer be happy about anything anyway. From time to time children and adolescents also think about death. Such experiences are very normal and very common after someone has experienced something very bad. But these feelings and thoughts don’t have to stay! There are people who can help you – they are also called “child and adolescent psychotherapists”. These people will then talk to you and help you feel better!

There are many teenagers who are beaten, ignored or sexually touched by adults or other teenagers without their wanting to be. In these situations, adolescents are often very scared and unable to defend themselves. And when it is finally over, some young people continue to feel very badly. They sleep very restlessly, often dream of these dire situations they have experienced, cannot concentrate at school or at home. You feel stressed by unwanted memories of what happened. Often they have the feeling that they don’t care about anything and that they can no longer be happy about anything anyway. Now and then young people think about death as well. Such experiences are quite normal after someone has experienced something bad. But these feelings and thoughts don’t have to stay! There are people who can help you. Child and adolescent psychotherapists will talk to you and help you feel better!
If you think you could need someone who listens to you and speaks to you in order to deal with your difficult experience, then you’ve come to the right place! Many children and adolescents are victims of abuse or neglect at some point in their lives. This can be physical or sexual abuse within the family, but also by peers or older adolescents. But it can also be physical or psychological neglect. It is a normal reaction if the child or young person feels severe psychological distress immediately after the experience.
The stress often subsides on its own after a while. However, if the stress and with it the psychological stress persists for more than a month, one speaks of a “post-traumatic stress disorder”. In addition to unwanted and stressful memories of traumatic experiences, signs of this illness are sleep problems, a strong restlessness, indifference and indifference for the environment and towards other people as well as distorted convictions such as self-reproach (further signs can be found under the section on post-traumatic stress disorder). Post-traumatic stress disorder can be treated very well with the help of psychotherapy. This can increase the quality of life of children and adolescents again and alleviate their stress. Early treatment can prevent other mental illnesses such as depression and eating disorders from developing. People who suffer from childhood abuse often become physically ill over the long term if symptoms are not treated.
We already have a lot of experience in psychotherapy with traumatized children and adolescents, and therefore we know very well how we can successfully support those affected. This is the goal of our “BESTFORCAN” project. Affected children and adolescents who, as part of an initial symptom diagnosis, show that they suffer from a post-traumatic stress disorder, are to be referred to child and adolescent psychotherapists in their area. The participating child and adolescent psychotherapists are specially trained for therapy with affected children and adolescents in order to offer the children and adolescents the best possible therapy. The therapy is paid for by the health insurance companies. If you are the parent, relative or carer of a sexually or physically abused or neglected child or adolescent and you suspect that he or she suffers from a post-traumatic stress disorder, you can find participating practitioners in your region here.
