The group training „Parenting Skills for Mothers with Borderline Personality Disorder“

The group training „Parenting Skills for Mothers with Borderline Personality Disorder“ was developed following the ideas of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT, Bohus & Wolf-Arehult, 2013; Linehan, 2015) and already existing parenting trainings.

The training is designed for mothers of young children (aged 0-6) as especially in early years, the relationship to caregivers is crucial for the child development. Mothers are taught individual techniques that enable dependability and stability in child education. Two female trainers conduct groups of 4-6 mothers. In 12 sessions, psychoeducational as well as cognitive-behavioral methods and exercises are combined. Topics as children’s needs, mindfulness, conflict resolution, dealing with emotions, stress and stress management, basic assumptions in parenting and self-care are covered. First results are promising (Renneberg & Rosenbach, 2016).
